Harry Potter is a fantasy novel and theater suite comprising seven novels and a play, written by JK Rowling and published between 1997 and 2016. It was translated into French by Jean-François Ménard.
It narrates the adventures of an apprentice wizard named Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, led by Albus Dumbledore. The main plot of the series features the fight of young Harry Potter against a dark wizard deemed immortal and super-powerful, Lord Voldemort, who once killed his parents; At the head of a group of faithful followers of black magic, the Death Eaters, Voldemort has sought for decades to take power over the wizarding world.
In 2016, the script for a play named Harry Potter And The Cursed Child written by Jack Thorne (a fan of the series) and directed by John Tiffany was also published. The play is produced by JK Rowling but is not the official continuation of the saga even if it features the characters from the novels and recounts their adventures after the end of the last volume.
Eight successful films (the last novel having been split at the cinema into two parts released eight months apart), as well as video games and many other derivative products have been adapted from the series of novels.
